State Semi Finals

Game 19 (18-1)
24 May vs. Bishop Carroll in State Semi-Finals at Spring Hill (3-0)

We improved upon our 3-2 overtime win in an early season match against Carroll with a smooth 3-0 State Semi-final shutout. It became Maggie Payne and the team's 14th shutout, and she and the team are now giving up less than one-third of a goal a match—.330!!

The fact that we have returned to an embracing of the Saint Thomas Aquinas corner kick has been quite noticeable all year. Our attack of the baseline has been fun to watch. Tonight, granted we came close to scoring 2-3 more in the first half on run of play, but in the end, we won 3-0—with all three goals coming from corner kicks.

We are averaging close to 7 corners a match. Brooklyn has created 36 herself, Kennedy 24. And tonight Maggie O'Keefe's ability to create corners certainly affected the final score.

And all three of the goals tonight came from using a back-on by the corner kicker. On the first one, Anisten juked her defender, following those moves with a perfect chip to the back post for Andi.

When she got a chance to do it again, she re-centered the ball which led to the foul of Miller in the box (granted, questionable) to create her corner kick.

And then our third goal came from Brooklyn putting it back on for, yet another, Rylance header.

We were superb in the first half, unlucky to be only up 1-0 at the half. In the second half we did not connect nearly as many passes, but we did cash two more goals.

Carroll is a team we were very fortunate to beat the first time we played them; Maggie Payne was unbelievable in that match. Tonight, however, we had a very dominant victory, with our defense controlling the match.

In the other semi-final, Southwest won 7-5, what? yes,12 goals were scored.

We will meet Southwest for the State Title tomorrow at 3:00.

Softball grabbed State Runner-up and Coach Sabath in his first season at Saint Thomas Aquinas won the State Title with the baseball boys—Coach Brown will try to one-up him by winning back-to-back state titles in his first two years at Saint Thomas Aquinas.

In soccer, the EKL could sweep, winning all 3 classes.
