2024 Bob Durig Mo-Kan Final

Game 4: (4-0-0) 27 March vs. BV Northwest for the Title (3-0) 2024 Stats EKL Standings We had an All-EKL Final as Northwest posted shutouts over both Sion and St. Teresa. The Saints also nabbed a couple of shutout wins, but we put 13 goals in the net to the Huskies' 3. The Huskies came out strong, but if you discount the first ten minutes or so of this match, the Saints pretty much controlled it. The Huskies started with a creative kickoff with an unbalanced right attack, and used that to energize their entire first 10 of the match. They showed speed and quickness early, but we settled in,  stopping those early attacks before they were deep into the front third, and then gradually took control of the match. It was 2-0 at the half as the Saints netted, yet another, corner kick goal and, yet another, baseline attack goal. We have seen this scoring approach in all four of the Saints' wins. It was quite a tournament debut for our varsity freshman as Angel kicked off Holy Week...

Bob Durig Mo-Kan Semi-Finals

Game 3: (3-0-0) 25 March vs. Lee's Summit North in the Semi-finals (3-0) EKL Standings 2024 Team Stats Well, the Saints blew into the finals with a 3-0 shutout of Lee's Summit North—but it sure didn't look like that for a long time. It was 1-0 at the half and North had generated a couple of close calls in the second half (one in which Payne was Payne to keep the match at one - nil us until only 7 minutes were left to play). But then Cabantac struck with 2 late goals, and it once again looked as if the Saints blew into the finals.  And those goals, which symbolized how dominant the Saints were throughout the match despite the close score, made Anisten the WOM. Shoutout to Anna DiCarlo who filled in (the entire match) admirably for an injured Andi Rylance to aid both defensively helping keep the sheet clean once again, and then offensively as she helped us transition out of the back.  The Saints suit up to play for the title tonight at 6:30, facing Blue Valley Northwest who d...

The 33rd Bob Durig Mo-Kan

Game 2: (2-0-0) 23 March 2024 vs. Pembroke Hill in the first round of the 33rd Bob Durig Mo-Kan (10-0) Girls Stats 2024 EKL Standings It's the opening day for one of the top tourneys in all of the Midwest, the 33rd Bob Durig Memorial Mo-Kan. Saint Thomas Aquinas has won this prestigious tournament 19 times, and we have won the last 4 in a row.  There have been a few girls over the years who have repeated as the Tara Peck Award Winner (MVP of the tourney) and four of the five have had Saint Thomas Aquinas on their jerseys. The first girl ever to do it was Kerry Durig, daughter of Bob Durig who gives his name to this tournament. Expect to see parts of the Durig family at these Saint Thomas Aquinas games over the next few days.  The starting line-up matches the opening day line-up: This one looked headed to a spread from the start of the match. It was 2-0 quickly, and 5-0 by half.  Pembroke did get some shots off, despite the dominant Saint Thomas Aquinas performance. The sc...

Opening Night vs. the Mustangs

Game 1: (1-0-0) 21 March vs. BV North @ 7:00 at Saint Thomas Aquinas (4-0) 2024 Stats The Saints return a large chunk of last year's team that just 3-peated as Kansas 5A State Champions—that right there will put them a leg up on most other schools in the area. The team is also receiving some National love with an opening National Ranking of 9th in the country. Check it out! The Saints were pretty darn good for an opening game, games that don't usually look very crisp. The Saints kept the Mustangs pretty much out of the front third of the field as we moved the ball quickly, frequently dropping and rotating it. The girls also kept putting the ball into the mix creating several opportunities in both halves. Our entire backline can and did put beautiful diagonal balls into the 18-box all night long.  We did cash two corners, one on the initial ball and the second off a 4th touch with some textbook put-backs. This team does have some major offensive firepower—and put all that with A...
