THE Kansas regular season game of the year

Game 8 (8-0-0)
11 April vs. BV Southwest at Saint Thomas Aquinas (2-1)

We finished the week off with probably the toughest opponent for us there is in Kansas, Blue Valley Southwest. And yes they came in undefeated, but more importantly, with a big-time offense as they had scored 43 goals in seven matches, over six goals a game.

The game lived up to its billing too, and now, favors to repeat itself as the 5A State Final—stuff happens, but these two look like the best two teams in the state.

The game stats would suggest that BV Southwest outplayed us in this match, for they outcornered us 5-1, and had 15 shots on goal to our 6, but I thought we had the shots with the highest probability of scoring on them, as we just created shots where our top scorers were one-on-one with the keeper.

Both of Cabantac's goals came off passes that put her in great positions to fire, and she did both times. And Marn honestly had two attacks that I would bet she would score on if put in either of those positions again.

Maggie had a phenomenal match again, saving 14 shots with a couple of 3 of them just dynamite saves. I would still say she saved the last shot where the Center overruled the Side ref to call the end of the scrum off the corner kick a goal. How he has a better view of it than the assistant ref who is actually on the line is beyond me. Of course, my view was even worse than the center refs so what do I know. To be fair they did meet and discuss it before the final ruling.

Maggie O'Keefe started tonight and played most of the match at wingback, and she played magnificently as did Zinkus on the other side. Maher and Hansen defended well together in the middle of the goal as well.  Tough d.

Maggie displayed the added bonus of her playing in the back as she set up the game-winning goal with chip up to Brooklyn.

We did, however, look as if we were packing it in a bit, something I would guess we were not intending to do. We just needed a couple of outlets that would allow us to get the ball out and up into some good counterattacks. They had committed so many forward that I believe we would have found some success.

Payne and Cabantac were our Women of the Match, and rightly so, but I would give a huge shoutout to the entire backline with Andi.

We have reached the halfway point with an 8-0-0 record, and we have played the toughest teams on our schedule outside of the national tourney.

So head to Prom girls and enjoy the evening; you deserve it.

We will see everyone back at Saint Thomas Aquinas next Friday as we bring in Kapaun from Wichita.

STATS:

First Half:

Saints: Shots: 8 (6) Corners: 0

Second Half:

Saints: Shots: 6 (1) Corners: 1 (O'Keefe)

27:24 Cabantac (O'Keefe chips the ball forward to Marn who smoothly head-flicks it forward for Ainsten's inside overlap)

Timberwolves: Shots: 8 (6) Corners: 3

1:46 Kim (a multi-touch corner ends up perhaps inching across the goal line)
