Sants shoot for their 30th Regional Title

Game 17: (16-1) Vs. St. James at Saint Thomas Aquinas for the Regional Title (2-0) 2024 Stats Payne and her Defense now under .40 goals per match The Saints got their rematch with St. James a bit earlier than expected but with a lot on the line.  Because of graduation, we played the match at 3:00 in the afternoon. But we were crisp all match, and despite a relatively close score of 2-0, we dominated the match from the start. The girls grabbed not only their 30th regional title in program history but also their 22nd straight. We were back to attacking the baseline, creating 6 first-half corners, along with some nice opportunities.   It was 0-0 at the half, but the baseline rewarded us with our first goal. Maggie O'Keefe just made a great play on the goal, picking off the pass, and going forward to find Angel's feet. Angel attacked the baseline boxing it slightly up from the keeper where Marn made it known that she will win all 50-50 balls—she did, finishing the game-winning goal

Regional Semifinals

Game 16: (15-1-0) Vs. JC Harmon at 6:00 at STA (11-0) 2024 Stats EKL Standings Well, playoffs are here. We have expanded the roster to the allowable 22, and those newly added all played a bit more than half a half tonight. We got to 10 pretty quickly, then 11, but we shut it down after that. The match was over so fast that the camera did not get turned on in time to catch the first goal at the 15 second mark.  That was enough. 1-0 would grow to 11-0 with still 12 minutes left in the half. Morgan got the only save of the game, as the center ref awarded Harmon a long deadball that they did put on goal with about 18 minutes to go. Delanie Gaona made a nice varsity season debut, racking up two goals to go with some other nice attacks.  Angel scored once and assisted twice, with Brooklyn scoring twice and assisting once, Zoe Macrorie scoring one and assisting on one and Cara Holton scoring once and assisting on two other goals—lots of production. Kammerer had two more assists from the right

It Is Senior Night, the final match of regular season.

Game 15: (14-1-0) 7 May vs. Blue Valley for Senior Night, our final regular season match (4-0) 2024 Stats EKL Standings It was Senior Night, and we began the match with all of the seniors in the match, as Morgan got it, brace and all, for the kickoff—pretty cool. Blue Valley, who did not win a match in a very balanced EKL, made you wonder why as they were pretty solid; in fact, Maggie had to make some saves, one that saved the shutout at the end of the first half as she touched the ball over the crossbar. ( Check it out! ) We put one on the board in the first half, but really were close on many others, and then we added three in the second half, with the Marn to Hansen goal becoming an instant classic. The girls win the EKL Championship, finishing 6-1, with ahead-to-head win over BV West, also 6-1.  We, at 14-1-0, will be the one seed now, and the fact that Southwest probably dropped to the three seed last night, losing to West,  we will be seeing St. James in the state quarterfinals o

We Travel to De Soto

Game 14: (13-1-0) 2 May vs. De Soto at De Soto (6-0) 2024 Stats EKL Standings We hit the road tonight for our second-to-last regular season match against another one of what will be the top seeds of 5A East, the Wildcats of De Soto. But this match played out well for the Saints, as we looked crisp and sharp, reminiscent of the early parts of the season. The passing was superb and balls did not stay on the girls' feet for very long all match—just a great match to watch. We scored three each half, with the corner kick on display throughout the match. The announcer called Marn to Hansen a couple times, and then Anisten did her thing where she just bends the corner into back netting. Brooklyn earned 5 corners on her own, with three of those becoming goals. (And really DiCola's direct kick was just a corner as well). We played 15 girls a lot, and Ruder finished the match for Maggie, keeping the sheet clean for the night. We should not miss the fact that we cashed basically 4 corner

Back to the EKL Race as We Travel to Stagville

Game 13: (12-1-0) 30 April vs. Bishop Miege at Miege at 4:30 (3-1) 2024 Stats EKL Standings We have returned from Iowa with a still-ailing Miller but a give-it-another-go Rylance for today's odd start time against the Stags. Holton stayed up top and Brooklyn stayed at center midfield to start this one. After getting the wind in the first half, we moved Hansen up to the second line to play a 3-4-3, and that worked pretty well for the most part. We got up 3-0 after 23 minutes, looking like the game might be over by half. Miege did put one on the board with about 9 to go in the first half. The second half played out 0-0 until lightning ended the match with 8:45 still to play. All of our goals did come off some pretty darn good shots. But our attack was not much more than firing some long shots, as we only earned three corners from the match—so we did not attack the baseline enough, and we did not play enough through Anisten. The match, however, was never in jeopardy. We are back in a

Wrapping up Iowa

Game 12: (11-1-0) 27 April vs. Waunakee (Wisconsin)  in Bettendorf, Iowa  (3-0) 2024 Stats EKL Standings The girls finished off Iowa with a strong team performance, putting up a clean sheet (Payne did save her 3rd PK of the season.) in a 3-0 win. And the girls produced 14 corner kicks, seven each half. So they did attack the baseline with some fervor. We scored three in that second half after a 0-0 first half. This year the girls will return from Iowa with a perfect 2-0 record, improving on the season to 11-1. We will be back in action Tuesday at Miege STATS: First Half: Saints: Shots: 4 (1) Corners: 7 (O'Keefe 2, DiCola 2, Marn 2, Miller) Waunakee: Shots: 2 Corners: 0 Second Half: Saints: Shots: 6 (3) Corners: 7 (Marn 2, O'Keefe, Cabantac, DiCola, Miller, Holton) 13:28 Cabantac  (she drives the corner in) 9:38  Holton (O'Keefe attacks the baseline before lifting her cross for an Anisten one-touch that the keeper gets a hand on deflecting it up for the head-in) 3:45 Hesser

Saints Head to Iowa for National Tourney

Game 11: (10-1-0) 26 April vs. Ankeny (Iowa)  in Bettendorf, Iowa  (2-1, shootout) 2024 Stats EKL Standings We had the best in Iowa against the best in Kansas, and despite a rather dominant performance from the Saints, this one went to PK's where the Saints were PERFECT! With Andi back in the Med Tent for the weekend, the lineup took on some interesting twists as Marn went to the 10, Cabantac back to the 8, and Holton back up top for the first time this year. And DiCarlo was back at the "6." The Saints got their lone goal with an attack of the baseline by Brooklyn where she lofted her long cross for a mid-post header by Maggie. Just a great  goal. The match became a bit scary as Ankeny scored with only 40 seconds left getting them to a  shootout, but we have Maggie and we did not miss. Coaches thought Brooklyn gave the team a big lift at the 10 without Rylance, allowing Anisten to drop to the 8 and DiCarolo to woman the "6." We won the midfield. STATS: First Hal
